We have reworked our website to make it more reflective of what the Engineers without Borders is doing today. Our current mission is to provide two projects for this summer in southern rural Uganda. A water catchment system for our new Primary School (see picture above) at the Hope Integrated Academy in Keytume, Uganda and work with our student chapter at Virginia Tech to deliver a solar storage energy system to St Michael’s School (see picture below).
These are our primary school students who have been in make-shift classrooms until this year. URF has funded the building of a new primary school just for them and the buildings are being completed as we speak. Our EWB-CVA Professional group is traveling to the site this summer to add water catchment facilities for the roof to aid in water supply and to prevent soil erosion for the rest of the secondary school building just down the hill from the new Primary School.
Our EWB-CVA team has been working at this site along with the Virginia Tech Chapter since our first trip in August of 2009. We have a very rich history with our friends at the school led by our NGO, the Uganda Rural Fund.
We will access the location for the addition of water treatment facilities while we are there in August.
